September 2nd 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – The South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA) will conduct elections into the alliance’s leadership council next week according to a statement extended to Nyamilepedia on Monday.
SSOA has been in a leadership crisis since last year when an election which resulted in the selection of late General Peter Gatdet Yaka as leader was abruptly cancelled by then leader Gabriel Changson Chang splitting the alliance into two camps.
Josephine Lagu, the interim leader of the opposition consortium said in a statement extended to Nyamilepedia that the eight-member opposition umbrella will meet next week to elect a new leader as per the alliance’s charter.
“Pursuant to Article 12 ( 7 ) of the Charter of SSOA , the Chairperson of SSOA hereby announces that the elections to the Leadership Council shall be conducted on Saturday 14 ” of September 2019 in Juba,” Lagu said in a statement extended to Nyamilepedia.
“The exact time and specific location will be made public by the Elections Committee at least 4 days before the event,” she added.
Ms Lagu further invited “all Parties to the R-ARCSS, the IGAD Special Envoy and all partners in the peace process are invited to send observers to witness the election process
