July 19th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – The South Sudan Opposition Alliance is in internal leadership crisis after some members threatened to withdraw after reportedly the interim Chairman of the alliance, Changson Lew, agreed to the Sudanese proposal on Monday.
Recently, the South Sudan Opposition Alliance rejected the deal that seek to create a five vice presidents government maintaining the current controversial 32 states.
In a public notice issued by the People’s Democratic Movement (PDM), a member of the opposition alliance, he said the group has rejected the proposal that has been presented by the Sudanese mediation several times.
“The proposal does not reflect the position of PDM which calls for adoption of Federal Governance during the transitional period, based on three (3) autonomous regions with their borders of the three provinces of Upper Nile, Equatoria and Bahr al Ghazal as they stood on 1st January 1956,” the statement signed by the PDM chairman, Hakim Dario said in part.
He refuted a claim by the Sudanese foreign minister that the warring parties have agreed to the power sharing proposal that the mediation presented to the parties.
“There now seems to be a communication emanating from the mediation in Kharoum, quoting the Sudan Foreign Minister, Mohammed Al-Dierdiri Ahmed purporting that all the parties to the talks in Khartoum have agreed to their proposal on “Outstanding Issues of Governance”,” he said in the statement.
The statement further said that the PDM has not offered any consent or authority to the South Sudan Opposition Alliance to sign a peace agreement with the government saying the interim Chairman of the Alliance Changson Lew has not authority to sign on their behalf.
“PDM as a member of SSOA has not given consent or authority to SSOA to sign the Khartoum Agreement on Outstanding Issues of Governance. The communication from mediators in Khartoum that an agreement has been reached by all the parties is therefore misleading, inaccurate and not being factual,” he said.
“Any member of SSOA who is so interested to sign the Khartoum Agreement on Outstanding issues should sign it on their own behalf individually and in the name of their own party or organization. The interim Chair of SSOA, Mr. Gabriel Changson Chang has no authority of SSOA to sign the Khartoum Agreement on Outstanding Issues of Governance on behalf of SSOA,” the statement further added.
