June 1, 2020 (Nyamilepedia) – A member of South Sudan South Sudan’s Transitional National Legislative Assembly (TNLA) has resigned saying he has lost interest in serving as a lawmaker in the TNLA.
Angok Arthur Akuien has been a member of the lawmaking body since 2016 representing the defunct SPLM-IO faction of First Vice-President Taban Deng Gai who replaced Machar as First Vice-President following neweal of fighting in Juba in July 2016.
In a letter addressed to vice-president Taban, Akuien said he has lost interest and said he don’t seek to be reappointed into the Reconstituted Transitional National Legislative Assembly (R-TNLA) which may be announced soon.
“Your Excellency, Please accept this letter as formal notification of resignation from my position as Member of Parliament at the Transitional National Legislative Assembly, with my last day being, during the dissolving process of the TNLA in accordance to the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan, R-ARCSS,” Akuien said in the letter seen by Nyamilepedia.
However, the outgoing lawmaker did not state the reasons for his resignation but said he has lost “my interest to serve as member during the forthcoming R-TNLA,” and asked his immediate “removal of my nomination from the group’s nomination list recently submitted for reconstitution and extension purposes of the R-TNLA.”
He thanked Taban “for the opportunity to have worked in this position for the past four years.”
“I have greatly appreciated the opportunities of representing our group in the TNLA, as well as being actively engaged in strengthening our presence in solidarity and promotion of peace, in particular.”
