November 10th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – Senior South Sudan government officials are wrangling over the leadership of the National Pre-Transitional Committee (NPTC), a peace implementing body tasked with the implementation of the 2018 peace agreement, sources with knowledge said.
The NPTC was established under revitalized peace agreement signed by the government and opposition groups in September last year and its chairperson is nominated by the government with deputies from the SSOA and the SPLM-IO.
The current chair is Tutkew Gatluak, the Presidential Advisor on Security Affairs. His current deputies are Hendry Odwar of the SPLM-IO and Gabriel Changson Chang representing the South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA).
Speaking to Nyamilepedia this afternoon, a senior government official said from Juba that two South Sudan ministers who are already members of the NPTC wants Tutkew replaced with one of them.
The source said Cabinet Affairs minister Elia Lomoro who is currently the body’s secretary wants to be appointed and was lobbying. He added that Michael Makuei Lueth, an outspoken information minister, also expressed the desire to head the peace implementing body.
“Elia wants to be appointed, he has stated that Tutkew had failed,” the source said. “This is beside Makuei who also is lobbying to be appointed.”
