South Sudan ministers in Sudan to discuss implementation of the 2012 agreement

Oct 27, 2020(Nyamilepedia) — The South Sudan high level delegation held a meeting with senior Sudanese officials in which they discussed the implementation of the landmark 2012 cooperation agreement.

The high level delegation led by the Defense Minister, Hon. Angelina Teny, had arrived in Khartoum on Monday and it includes the interior minister, General Paul Mayom Akec and foreign minister, Beatrice Khamis Wani among others. It was received by senior Sudanese officials including the country’s defense minister.

The defense minister, Angelina Teny, had said that the talks will revolve around security, the 2012 cooperation agreement and outstanding issues in the 2005 Comprehensive Peace Agreement.

“A number of issues have been agreed but a number of issues remain outstanding, so we will go do our best to see to it that we have addressed outstanding issues,” Miss Teny told reporters shortly before departure from the Juba International Airport on Monday.

According to James Gatdet, the press secretary for First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny, the delegation intends to discuss the implementation of the cooperation agreement

Implementation of the September 2012 Cooperation Agreements with the sisterly (motherly) country, Sudan, is now rolling,” said to James Gatdet

“Top South Sudanese security and foreign service officials are in Khartoum for talks…Led by the Defense Minister, Hon. Angelina Teny, other senior officials in the delegation include the Minister of Interior, Hon. Paul Mayom and Foreign Affairs Minister, Hon. Beatrice Khamis, among others,” to James Gatdet added.

The world’s youngest nation got its independence from Sudan in July 2011 after decades of bloody war with Khartoum but tensions remain high between the two countries over border disputes in Abyei Administrative area, Heglig and border corridors in Upper Nile.
