September 1st 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan military officers allied to the country’s First Vice-President Taban Deng Gai are angry over what they said was a “selective” promotion of military officers.

Last month, military officers allied to FVP Taban were integrated and promoted into several ranks in the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF).

Following the promotion, some officers who weren’t promoted said they were sidelined because they were not from Taban’s home state expressing surprise.

“It was surprised when new officers were promoted to various ranks both in national army and other organized forces, and no single person from other states and Fangak in particular under Gen. Taban Deng Gai was promoted,” one officer said.

“Taban only promoted mostly people from where he came from,” another source said. “It is a selective promotion.”
