August 14th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan leaders have been urged to change the way they behalf for the smooth running of the implementation of the peace agreement signed in Khartoum early this month.
South Sudan leaders, notably President Salva Kiir, SPLM-IO leader and former First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon along with other opposition leaders signed a peace agreement in the Sudanese capital Khartoum.
The agreement which has been hosted by the Sudanese president Omar Hassan Ahmed Al-Bashir since late May is a result of the IGAD effort to end the ongoing conflict in South Sudan which started in December 2013.
In a statement issued on Friday, the Troika, South Sudan’s peace guarantors and largest aid providers, said considerable challenges lie ahead for South Sudan and that leaders need to behalf differently to make the smooth implementation of the recent agreement given their past leadership failures and
“Considerable challenges lie ahead, and we are concerned that the arrangements agreed to date are not realistic or sustainable. Given their past leadership failures, South Sudanese leaders will need to behave differently and demonstrate commitment to peace and good governance,” said the joint Troika statement.
The statement further said the “process should culminate in free, fair, and credible elections, and allow for a peaceful transition in leadership in the most expeditious and responsible manner.”
