July 15th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – A civil society activist in South Sudan has accused South Sudanese leaders of power greed amid leadership wrangles within South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA).

Early this month, Gabriel Changson Chang, ex-chairman of the opposition umbrella came into a dispute with members of the alliance after saying SSUM/A leader, Hon. Denay Chagor, will lead for six months before taking over again.

Changson has held the position since the inception of the group in late 2017. Based on the SSOA Charter, the position is supposed to be rotated among the Alliance members every six months.

Speaking in an interview with Eye Radio last week, the Executive Director of the Community Empowerment for Progress Organization, CEPO Edmund Yakani said South Sudanese leaders are becoming more possessed with power demanding fight to end this.

“South Sudanese are becoming too much possessed with power as with the moment you bring a structure to South Sudanese, they must fight on that on who should lead that and that,” Yakani said.

He said most political grouping in South Sudan is based on tribal affiliations and regionalism saying where one comes form should not be a criteria and must be met with a force.

“As much as we challenge political parties that they are ethnic affiliated, even social movements are linked to that, regionalism is also linked to that; on where does this person comes from and we should not be against him/her,” he said.

“It’s a very bad indicator for the future of a stable and a peaceful South Sudan. You shouldn’t stick to power in order to accelerate violence. Democracy is when the majority say you are not capable, walk away…go and put your house in order, and next time you try again,” he added.
