November 14th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan lawmakers at the country’s National Transitional Legislative Assembly have rejected a motion to remove the Chairperson of the Parliamentarian Committee on Federal Affairs, Otim David.
Speaking to Nyamilepedia on Thursday, ex-labor minister General Gathoth Gatkuoth accused the First Vice-President of initiating the motion by writing and later submitting it to the Speaker Lino Anthony Makana for execution.
He said the motion was rejected by the MPs in a record number.
“FVP [First Vice-President] motion to remove Hon. Otim David Okot as chairperson of Committee of Federal Affairs was seriously defeated by 90% votes against the motion,” Gatkuoth told the Nyamilepedia.
Gatkuoth said the First Vice-President had sought to remove him because he recently joined him in his call for Taban’s removal from the office saying he caused disunity among the internal front.
“The FVP wants him to be removed because he joined me with another 10 members of parliament,” Gatkuoth said.
“The motion was written by the FVP to the Speaker of the House Atoni Makana to remove Hon. Otim then yesterday the speaker raised the motion surprisingly, automatically the MPs voted against the motion,” he said.
