March 3rd 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – A South Sudanese lawmaker representing the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement in Opposition (SPLM-IO) faction led by the First Vice President Taban Deng Gai said the later is intimidating lawmakers representing the group in the TNLA.
This came after the First Vice President threatened on Thursday to dismiss SPLM-IO (TB) representatives in the South Sudan Parliament who have sided with Taban’s rival, Gen. Gathoth Gatkouth who declared himself leader of the group last week.
Speaking to the Eye Radio over the weekend, Hon. Deng Alier, a member of parliament representing the SPLM-IO (TB) said the First Vice President is intimidating the members of parliament who sided with Gen. Gathoth Gatkuoth.
“I think Taban is intimidating the members of the national parliament who chose to stay in the party with Commander Gen. Gathoth Gatkuoth,” he told the Eye Radio.
Alier further said the FVP hams no authority to dismiss them from the parliament and that the sole authority lies in the President who only can dismiss them when they have been convicted of any misconduct.
“Only President Kiir has power to withdraw the powers [only if] he is convinced of a case involving dishonesty or issues that undermine the constitutional order,” he added.
Last week, Gen. Gatkuoth announced during a press conference held in the capital Juba that they have decided to remove FVP Taban as the leader of the SPLM-IO (TB) and withdrew the confidence from him as the FVP representing the group.
