Jan 09, 2017(Nyamilepedia) —— South Sudan’s main warring faction under the leadership of President Salva Kiir has signed new oil deals with the Chinese companies promising that the SPLM/A(IG) will resume oil production in Unity State.
To operationalize oil production in Unity State, Juba vows to stabilize security around Panakuach, currently controlled by SPLM/A-IO, and Tharjiath Oil fields in Unity State.

The Chinese National Petroleum Company has pledged to contribute to work with the government of South Sudan to improve oil production in the Country under the leadership of the incumbent president.
Ida Young says Joint Efforts with the Ministry of petroleum will be focussed on the resumption of production of oil in unity state oil fields.
“As partners we will do our best to support the Dar petroleum Operation company increasing the production of oil and also fully support the resumption for oil in unity” Ida said.
Addressing the media, after signing an agreement with the petroleum Ministry on Friday, January 7th, between the Government and petroleum exploring companies, Ida extended the term for another five years on behalf of foreign oil companies.
Production at unity oil fields was suspended when the conflict erupted in December 2013 and attempts to resume its productions were resisted by SPLA-IO, the main rebel faction under the leadership of the country’s former Vice President, Dr. Riek Machar Teny.
The country’s petroleum sector was also later hit by steep fall in the global output of crude oil beginning from mid 2015. As a result of lower oil prices, Sudanese authorities collect nearly all the oil revenues to cover pipe lines and installations costs.
According to Salva Kiir’s government, oil prices contribute the vast portion of the budget with over ninety percent, however, Juba has borrowed many loans for the last three years to cover its depicts.
The main international communities operating in South Sudanese oil fields are the Chinese National Petroleum Company (CNPC), Malaysia’s petroleum companies and Sudan’s petroleum companies (SDPET).
All these companies operate under consortium know as the Dar Petroleum, managed by relatives and friends of president Salva Kiir.
Lol Gatkuoth’s Recent Visit To Unity State Oil Fields
On January 4th, Juba dispatched Ezekiel Lol Gatkuoth, the recently appointed Minister of Petroleum and Dr. Joseph Nguen Manytuil, former governor of Unity State, and other officials to Unity State oil fields.
“On 4th Jan.2017 , this is the grand visit by Hon. Ezikiel Lol Gatkuoth and the Governor Dr Joseph Nguen Manytuil , and other Ministers and Technocrats from GPOC to the Northern Liech State and particularly to the Unity Oil field and refinery which are located in GREATER Rubkotna” Said Lam Tungwar, a Minister in the Northern Liech State in accordance with Salva Kiir’s 28 states.
Lam announced that the evaluation covers the most vital installations which were damaged during the war and promised that foreign engineers will soon begin their work to repair the installations.

Ladies and gentlemen , we will resume soon the oil production given the stability and peace in the area of Northern Liech State.” Lam claims.
In a later report, Lam and other officials visited other oil fields under the SPLA-IG controls.

Despite relative peace in Northern Liech State, control of oil fields and resumption of oil production has fuelled major conflicts in Unity State.
