January 27th 2020 (Nyamilepedia) – The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) has said preparations were underway to send food, medicines and other relevant items to training centres.

This comes a week after two opposition troops died in a training centre in the country.

Speaking to reporters in Juba on Friday, IGAD special envoy for South Sudan Ismail Wais said the regional body was making arrangements to send basic services to different training centres across the country.

“Preparing are underway by the IGAD to send food and non-food items to training sites across the country,” he said.

South Sudan government and opposition groups in 2018 signed a revitalized peace agreement to end the war.

The agreement provided for the reunification of the rival forces to form what would be the professional national army.

The revitalized agreement provided for the deployment of the trained unified national army ahead of the formation of Revitalized Transitional Government of National Unity on 22nd February 2020.
