Oct 14, 2016(Nyamilepedia) —– Latest reports from South Sudan’s Upper Nile confirm heavy fighting between the two rival forces of SPLA near the contested city of Malakal.

Reporting for SPLA in Opposition, Brig. Gen. Nyagwal Ajak Dengkak, the spokesperson of SPLA-IO Sector One, Agwelek Division, said their position was attacked on Friday evening around 6pm at Wajwok and Lalo Villages.

Nyagwal confirmed to supporters that Agwelek division had an upper hand in last night fighting but warned that fighting was going to continue overnight.

“Let us pray for better outcome because we are tired of constant provocation of Juba tribal regime forces in areas of controlled.” Gen. Nyagwal said.

Earlier this week, Nyagwal reported that government forces were busy transporting more troops to Wajwok, lelo,Doelieb and ditang villages in the West Bank in preparation for possible attacks on Owaci, an Agwelek division forces military position, extending to Canal and Kaldak.

“Also, it is confirmed that Helicopters gunships are now in malakal town this evening ready for attacking Agwelek division forces position tomorrow morning or anytime as authorised by Juba Bilpam military Headquarters.” Gen. Nyagwal said on October 9th, 2016.

Reports from the government side, however, blames the SPLA-IO for attacking government positions in Rom village but Brig.Gen. Nyagwal denies.

According to observers, Juba ordered troops to fight to push local population away from Malakal, West Bank, Canal and Khorfolus for these areas to be occupied by Dinka Padang and Dinka Ngok, respectively.

On the other hand, Agwelek Division, which is predominantly ethnic Chollo(Shilluck), is fighting back to restore Malakal and some areas on the East Bank.

More fighting has been reported in Northern Upper Nile, however, the exact number of casualties is yet to be determined.

Within the last one week,South Sudan conflict has intensified in Upper Nile state, Unity State, Western and Eastern Equatoria states.
