January 24th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan government has offered to its 400 lawmakers 640 million South Sudanese Pounds for the dissemination of peace.

A South Sudan member of Parliament told the Nyamilepedia on the condition of anonymity on Thursday that regular members of parliament will receive 1.2 million pounds and 1.6 millions for the head of parliamentary committees as well as chief whips.

“Yes that’s true.  The amount will be divided between the MPs. Ordinary MPs like me will be given 1.2 millions South Sudanese pounds. 1.6 millions will be given to head of [parliamentary] committees and chief whips,” he said.

He further told the Nyamilepedia that the money will be used for travels which are meant to disseminate the peace deal signed in September last year by Kiir and opposition groups.

“The money will be used for peace dissemination. We will use them to get air tickets and other travel expense,” he said.

Last year,  South Sudan lawmakers were given $40,000 each to buy cars and housing sparking anger among South Sudanese who said the money should be used in development of the country which has been at war for five years.
