November 4th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan government on Wednesday said it was disappointed after it understood that the Kenyan government failed to send representatives to participate in the peace celebrations held on Wednesday in the capital Juba.
Kenyan President, Uhuru Kenyatta did not show up during a peace celebrations held on Wednesday in the capital Juba by the South Sudan government but no explanation had been provided for the unexpected absence of an important regional head of state.
South Sudan President, Salva Kiir Mayardiit and opposition leader, Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon signed in September the long-awaited peace deal in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa.
Other opposition groups also signed the deal which is a part of a IGAD initiative to try to end the ongoing civil war which engulfed the world’s youngest nation in December 2013 following a flare-up of violence.
In late September, President Salva Kiir Mayardiit extended invitation to several regional heads of state and government including the Kenyan President, Uhuru Kenyatta who happened later to not show up at the event.
In a statement to the media following the weekly cabinet meeting on Friday, South Sudan’s information minister and government spokesman Michael Makuei Lueth, according to the Eye Radio said the government is disappointed after Kenyan failed to show up at the event.
“Well, of course their none attendance was a concern…if I have invited you to come to me and you don’t, definitely I will feel disappointed but what can you do, ” Makuei told the journalists on Friday following the weekly cabinet meeting on Friday.
Makuei further said as a guarantor to the peace agreement, they had extended an invite to the government of Kenya to partake in the event. Kenyan President, Uhuru Kenyatta, is IGAD’s rapporteur to the peace agreement that was signed in September.
