August 16th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – Two South Sudanese governor of Boma and Jonglei state have meet early this week to promote peace and reconciliation between the Dinka and Murle communities of former Jonglei state.

The meeting between Jonglei state governor Maker Thiong and his Boma state counterpart, David Yau Yau took place early this week in Jonglei state with the two governors urging for peaceful co-existence between the two neighboring communities.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, Boma state Governor David Yau Yau stressed that leaders of the two neighboring communities must demonstrate leadership and come up with meaningful solutions that will put an end to hostilities between the Murlei and its neighboring Dinka Bor community.

“We, as leaders must work to get hostile communities together; this is how we can demonstrate to our people that we are the same [South Sudanese] people and must live at peace with each other,” YauYau said.

“Our youth cannot continue shedding blood. There is a lot to be done in building the nation. The world has moved on and left us behind. We have to keep the peace that we have, and work at bringing development to our people,” he added.

For his part, Jonglei state Governor Maker Thiong, said it’s now time for the leaders to restore peace and stability in the country as it used to be before the war.

“It is important to take our country back to the level it was before and grow it,” Governor Maker said adding that “No one should be left behind; and this is what we as leaders are doing through interactions. We hope our people will follow to increase interactions in trade, travel and other engagements.”

Cattle rustling and child abduction have been some of the issues that sometimes lead to all-out war and conflict between the local communities.
