Dec 10, 2016(Nyamilepedia) —— Reports from Nyamani of greater Mundri confirmed that SPLA troops loyal to president Salva Kiir have shot two UNOCHA humanitarian trucks carrying food aid to Mundri.

Speaking to Nyamilepedia, Alfonso Wani said the UNOCHA trucks were ambushed by the government tropops in Nyamani.

He believes that the SPLA might have confused them with SPLA-IO.

“At first we thought it was not deliverate. Maybe they thought those trucks with UNOCHA symbols and flags were carrying rebels but it was surprising to see the SPLA destroying evidence. They burned the remaining parts of trucks and looted the food” Wani said.

According Captain Girma Apaya, the SPLA-IO spokesman in Greater Mundri, who accused Juba of committing war crimes in Mundri, the government troops denied UNOCHA officials access to the scene.

“Attempts by UNOCHA to get to the location to access the trucks were denied by the army as no clearance were granted to them.” Apaya said.

“The government claimed the food aid were meant for rebels that was why they shot  and two trucks were grounded where as all others were parked at Nyamani.” He continued.

The rebels officials said government troops in Mundri had no food and therefore they are looting to survive.

“The government forces in Mundri were badly starving in the barracks and have resorted to looting NGO compounds which resulted to looting of MSF compound where,  money,  food,  medicine,  cooking stuff and bedding were looted.” Said Girma Apaya.

He said the SPLA-IO commander, Lt. Gen. Wesley Weleb, has condemned “these criminal acts” and advised the army to respect human rights.

“The SPLA IO commander Lt. General Wesley Welebe condemned these criminal acts and advised the government army to respect the Human Rights and international humanitarian law.” Apaya said.

OCHA is part of the United Nations Secretariat responsible for bringing together humanitarian actors to ensure a coherent response to emergencies.

The organization mobilizes and coordinates effective and principled humanitarian action in partnership with national and international actors in order to alleviate human suffering in disasters and emergencies.

Attempt to reach the government spokesman to comment on these reports were not returned at the time of this report.
