Sep 15, 2020(Nyamilepedia) — A South Sudan government delegation has traveled to the northern Neighor, Sudan, to meet the Sudanese stakeholders before the signing of the Juba-mediated Sudanese peace agreement.
The high-level delegation was led by the mediator Hon. Tut Gatluak, the South Sudan Presidential Advisor on Security Affairs.
“A team led by the Presidential Advisor on Security Affairs Honorable Tut Gatluak Manimeh has just touched down in the Sudanese capital Khartoum,” Said a senior government official who spoke to media from the capital, Juba.
According to the official, the high-level delegation was tasked by President Kiir to go and invite Sudan’s Prime Minister, General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and the leaders of the opposition to come to Juba for the final signing of the peace agreement that is scheduled for October 2, 2020.
“The team is taking President Salva Kiir’s official invitation to his Sudanese counterpart, General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, to attend the final signing of Sudanese peace on 3th October in Juba,” the official added.
The Sudanese leaders just left the South Sudan’s capital, Juba, after holding several meetings with President Kiir and some with the First Vice President, Dr. Riek Machar.
Although mediating the Sudanese peace process, South Sudanese leaders have their own crises to handle and competition over Khartoum has been a dominance factor between Kiir and Machar’s groups.
This visit came within 48 hours after Machar’s group met the Sudanese Prime Minister in Khartoum, Sudan.
The SPLM-IO delegate visited Dr. Hamdok yesterday in his office in Khartoum to congratulate him on the peace agreement that seems to be making progress.
