May 5th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – A South Sudan former state minister has declared his decision to join the country’s main armed opposition group, Sudan People’s Liberation Movement in Opposition (SPLM-IO) led by former First Vice President, Dr. Riek Machar Teny.

Dech Kuek Jokthiang, former minister of physical infrastructure in Latjor state said in a statement extended to the Nyamilepedia that he decided to defect to the main armed opposition because there is no any “functioning” government in Juba.

“I have decided to defect from the TGONU [Transitional Government of National Unity] and declare my support to SPLM/A-IO under the visionary leader Dr. Riek Machar Teny,” he said in the statement extended to the Nyamilepedia.

The statement added that the minister defected also because of the recent “extrajudicial killing of Hon. Dong Samuel Thot and Hon. Aggrey Ezboni Idri by national security agents of Salva Kiir’s ruthless regime in Luri, South Sudan on 30/01/2017 as revealed by UN’s recent report.”

He further said the government in Juba is using “divided and rule policies through bribing and giving people positions.”
