March 4th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – A car from the South Sudan embassy in Ethiopia is reportedly being detained by Ethiopian authorities in the western Ethiopian region of Gambella after allegedly involving in a fatal incident in Gambella that killed a school girl there.
The car, one source told the Nyamilepedia, was accused by the Ethiopian authorities of overrunning a 12-year old South Sudanese-Ethiopian school girl to death on Friday in an area of the Gambella region saying the driver and the car are being detained by the authorities in Gambella.
“The driver who hit the girl was arrested and he and the car are now being detained at a police station in Gambella by the authorities there,” the source said.
The same source told the Nyamilepedia on Sunday that the embassy car had left the capital Addis Ababa and arrived in the Western Gambella region on Friday to pick up the South Sudanese governor of Maiwut state who had arrived in the town from South Sudan waiting to be transported to Addis Ababa.
“A vehicle belong[ing] to the South Sudan embassy [in Addis Ababa] hit a 12 year old girl on Friday. The incident happened near Bentiu, in Thorow area close to Kuergeng in Western part of Gambella,” the source told the Nyamilepedia on the condition of anonymity.
According to the source, the car belongs to Deng Puot, a military attaché from South Sudan embassy in Addis Ababa and was assigned to the Gambella region to monitor the activities ongoing at South Sudan-Ethiopia border.
