Sep 2, 2020(Nyamilepedia) — A South Sudan government delegation, led by the Minister of Presidential Affairs, Hon. Nhial Deng Nhial, has travelled to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to follow up on developmental projects and Gambella-Akobo-Bor road that is to be constructed to link the two countries.

On twitter, Hon. Nhial Deng Nhial confirmed his arrived saying that he was warmly received by Amb. Gedu Andargachew, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia.

His accompanying delegation includes the governor of Jonglei state, H.E. Denay Chagor, Ambassador of South Sudan to Ethiopia, H.E. James P. Morgan, H.E. Eng Jeremiah Turic Bairiak, undersecretary of the Ministry of Roads and Bridges of South Sudan, and others.

The two countries agreed back in 2008 on wide range of joint projects on social, economic, capacity building and security issues.

On roads, South Sudan and Ethiopia agreed to build roads that will connect Ethiopia to Upper Nile, Jonglei and Eastern Equatoria of South Sudan.

Particularly, they agreed on Pagak-Maiwut-Longechuk-Malakal Road and Longechuk-Dajo Road in Upper Nile state, while the Ethiopian authority was expected to upgrade the construction of Gambella-Jekow Road.

In Jonglei state, the two countries agreed that the Ethiopian government was to begin construction of Gambella-Nyininyang-Akobo Road and in Eastern Equatoria state both Governments were to build Mizan-Dima-Buma-Narus-Juba Road.

The two countries further agreed on wide range of corporate agreements that include reinforcing of the River Transport and regulatory measures on safety issues, customs and illicit trafficking.

Over the years, South Sudan and Ethiopia have revisited these agreements and tried to reinforce them but so far very little has been achieved.
