March 25, 2020 (Nyamilepedia) — South Sudan government said on Wednesday that it was imposing a night curfew as it steps up preventive measures against coronavirus.

This was announced by South Sudan’s Minister of Interior Paul Mayom Akec in an order seen by Nyamilepedia saying the curfew commences this evening.

The senior government official said in the order which is inline with a presidential order issued this week that “there shall be imposed curfew in all cities and towns of the Republic of South Sudan.”

He said the curfew will “strick the movement of people from 8:00pm to 6:00am throughout the Republic of South Sudan (cities and towns) with effect from today 25 March 2020 AD.”

He said certain situations will be an exception of the order. These are health conditions requiring ambulance, Radio and TV personnel on duty.

Mayom further warned that those who fail to comply with the order “shall be deemed to have committed an offense for violation of lawful orders, and exposing the citizens to risks.”

South Sudan is one of the few countries around the world with no confirmed cases of the virus which began from the Chinese city of Wuhan in December last year.

A number of suspected cases in the country’s capital Juba and some states have tested negative for the novel coronavirus also known as COVID-19.

South Sudan’s neighbors, Kenya, Sudan, Uganda and Ethiopia, have all confirmed cases of the virus.
