May 8, 2020 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan government announced that coronavirus cases jumped to 120 after thirty more people – all of whom are South Sudanese – tested positive for the novel coronavirus.
The latest surge in cases come a day after president Salva Kiir said the government was going to ease the restrictions imposed by the government to curb the spread of the virus when it first discovered the first case in April.
In a statement this evening, the office of the First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny who is also the SPLM-IO leader and deputy chairperson of the high-level taskforce on the coronavirus, said most of the victims are South Sudanese.
“South Sudan has today confirmed 30 more cases of Covid-19, bringing the total number to 120. This was announced today during the High Level Taskforce meeting chaired by the First Vice President, H.E. Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon,” the Machar office said in the statement.
“Most of the victims are South Sudanese nationals,” it added.
