Juba, South Sudan
September 22, 2021—- South Sudan’s Revitalized Transitional Government strongly condemns a coup attempt in the neighboring Sudan calling it a “blatant attack on the process of consolidating peace” in the two Sudans.
This comes less than a day after the armed officers suspected to be the entourages of Sudanese ousted president Omer Al_Bashir masterminded what was pronounced as a coup against the incumbent Sudanese Transitional government yesterday morning.
In a press statement seen by Nyamilepedia, the South Sudan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation under the auspices of Minister Mayik Ayik Deng condemns the attempted coup in the strongest terms possible and urges the Sudanese government to bring the perpetrators to book.
“The Government of the Republic of South Sudan received unfortunate news on Tuesday morning 21st September, 2021 of a military coup attempt orchestrated by rogue elements in the Sudanese military against the Transitional Government of Sudan. We consider this as a blatant attack on the process of consolidating peace in our sisterly country, the Republic of Sudan”,the statement reads.
The government of South Sudan also condemned the external influences which might have aroused the coup plotters to oust the Transitional government which is about to hand over the power to people.
“The government and the people of the Republic of South Sudan strongly condemn this failed coup attempt and urge the Sudanese government to hold accountable all those involved. The Government of South Sudan also condemns any external interference intended to derail the peaceful transition that is currently underway in the Sudan”,the statement says.
The world’s youngest nation made it clear that it is not in any way supportive to shortcut avenues of ascending to power especially through the use of military means to depose the Transitional Government of National Unity.
“We emphasize our firm position in rejecting the use of military means to undermine the power of the people and the leadership of Transitional Government. Such unconstitutional shortcuts aimed at blocking the democratic political transition in Sudan should not be allowed to derail the efforts of the Sudanese people”the statement added.
They appeal to all parties and stakeholders in Sudan to embrace peaceful dialogue and protect the Transitional Government so that they do not reverse the democratic gains made during this transitional period.
The government of South Sudan is the midwife of the Sudanese peace which was signed on October 3rd, 2020 under the auspices of President Salva Kiir Mayardit.
Early this month, the government of South Sudan condemned the military coup in Guinea Conakry that was carried out by Presidential guards who ousted president Alpha Conde and took charge of the country in a highly celebrated bloodless coup.
