September 11th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan church leaders have urged President Salva Kiir Mayardit and his main rival turned peace partner Dr. Riek Machar Teny to work out their differences for the sack of the people of South Sudan.
Kiir and Machar are meeting in the capital Juba to solve the many issues impeding the process of the implementation of the revitalized peace deal which they co-signed in September last to end one of the continent’s deadliest civil war.
In a statement on Wednesday, Kiir’s office said the leaders urged the two principals to seek divine intervention so that the can work out their egos for the sake of the country which has been marred in a tribal war since December 2013.
“The religious leaders are now calling and seeking divine intervention of Almighty to guide President Kiir and Dr. Riek Machar as they enter into the second phase of face-to-face meeting,” Kiir’s office said in a statement extended to Nyamilepedia.
The direct peace talks between the two leaders is focusing on pending issues hampering the implementation of the revitalized peace Agreement including the reports of the Independent Boundaries Commission (IBC) on the number and borders of the states.
In addition, the two leaders will discuss a number of issues related to the timely formation of the unity government and other important issues in order to expedite the implementation of the R-ARCSS.
