July 5th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan government, which is struggling to survive, on Wednesday cancelled the supposed celebrations for the country’s 7th independence anniversary over financial crisis imposed upon the young African nation by the ongoing civil war which has been going on since December 2013 between forces loyal to Machar and that of the incumbent president Salva Kiir Mayardiit, senior government official announced on Wednesday in the nation’s capital, Juba.
The Secretary of the South Sudan government and head of the independence celebrations committee , Abdun Agau, told journalists today in the South Sudanese capital, Juba, that the Government is cancelling independence celebrations for the third year in a row as result of the country’s soaring inflation.
South Sudan, the world’s youngest nation, has been hit hard by financial constrains since 2013 due to its ongoing civil war which has also triggered one of the fastest growing refugee crises in the world.
South Sudan leaders signed an agreement in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, following the release of the main opposition leader, Dr. Riek Machar, last month in South Africa.
The Khartoum talks which concludes today are part of the IGAD-led peace efforts.
President Kiir and SPLM-IO leader, Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon, have agreed to work together in the would-be-formed Transitional Government of National Unity .
