August 22nd 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – A South Sudan Bishop of the Malek Dioces has decried the ongoing corruption in the country and urges the South Sudan government to cease and embark on putting things right.
Rev. Peter Jon Mayom of the Diocese of Malek urged the South Sudan government in a open letter to mitigate effects of corruption on all public sector and enhance service delivery.
“It is time to tell the leaders, whether in the Church or in the government, that the Lord God has given us a chance for peace and reconciliation,” he said in a statement seen by the Nyamilepedia.
He said the relative calm that has returned to the country since the signing of the permanent ceasefire agreement by President and opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar in June in Khartoum should be an opportunity to put things right.
“It is a chance to change and put things right. It is not time to loot and kill innocent people anymore. It is time to deliver service to our citizens,” he said.
South Sudan is one of the most corrupt countries in the world and the number one failed state in the world. Corruption has bee. one of the reasons most services has not been delivered by the government.
“We need a change of heart and mind, to turn to God and it is the Church’s job to do that,” he further said adding that “Most of the people who do not benefit from corruption-whether in the government or in the Church-will be happy with it.”
