November 22nd 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan army and members of the Sudan armed forces on Thursday clashed in Northern Upper Nile state after members of the Sudanese army entered South Sudan territory, sources with knowledge said.
One source said a petrol unit of the South Sudan People’s Defense Force (SSPDF) intercepted 15 soldiers from the Sudanese army after they entered 15 kilometers inside South Sudan territory at Dung Cam where a farm is located.
The source said five Sudanese soldiers were arrested and investigation was under way.
“The incident happened in the Dung Cam area yesterday, when Sudanese soldiers entered 15 kilometers into South Sudanese territory,” the source said.
“Five Sudanese soldiers were reportedly arrested by South Sudan forces,” the source added.
Northern Upper Nile State minister of information, Santino Nyuan, confirmed the clash and said the Sudanese soldiers appeared to be “heading to a farm in Dung Cam in Central Renk, when they were intercepted by South Sudanese forces.”
Last month, the Sudanese army abducted around seven South Sudanese nationals who were working in a farm near the Sudanese border. Nyuan said the seven South Sudanese farmers are now being detained at a military facility in Sudan’s Blue Nile state capital Damazin saying efforts to secure their release were underway.
