January 20th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s army chief Gen. Gabriel Jok Riak who is also the Chairperson of the Joint Defense Board (JDB) on Thursday paid a surprise visit to the SPLA-IO headquarters in Panyume, Yei River state.
Gen. Jok was accompanied by the SPLA-IO Deputy Chief of General Staff for Administration and Logistic Gen. James Koang Chuol who is also the Deputy Chairperson of the Joint Defense Board, Yusto Baba, the deputy governor of Yei River State as well as other members of the board.
“A high Level Team of the JDB led by SSPDF Chief of General Staff and Chairperson of the JDB, Gen. Jok Riak and SPLA (IO) CDR and Deputy Chairperson of the JDB, Gen. James Koang, accompanied by a delegation of Yei River State Government which comprised of the Deputy Governor Hon. Yusto Baba, Hon. Speaker Napthali Hassan, Political and Economic Advisors and the Leader of Government Business in the STLA had a historic visit to the SPLM/A (IO) Headquarters at Panyume on the 16th January 2019,” opposition government of Yei River state said in a statement.
According to the opposition, high-level visit “aimed at disseminating the R-ARCSS and to get views from the community about the pronouncement made by the JDB for the establishment of Assembling Area at Pabanga in Kendila of Morobo County and Unified Military Training Institute at Moruta in Kerwa of Kajo-Keji County.”
