Oct 06, 2020(Nyamilepedia) — South Sudanese National Revenue Authority has appointed a foreigner as the institutions Commissioner-General.
Dr. Patrick Mugoya, a Tanzanian national was appointed last week to replace Dr. Olympio Attipoe, who was released off his duties in august last year.
While addressing the media after the take-over ceremony, Dr. mugoya promised to put in place measures that will fully operationalize the NRA.
“we will fully operationalize the National Revenue Authority. We will immediately take measures to make sure that the NRA is fully operational,” Dr. Mugoya said after signing his contract.
Dr. Mugoya added that he will ensure that the NRA formulates or develops a participatory manner with all key stakeholders, a strategic plan for the Authority that will see to it that non-oil revenue mobilization is enhanced in a transparent, efficient effective, and accountable manner.
“We will put into place all these measures while at the same time sealing loopholes and revenue leakages in terms of tax invasions and unscrupulous exemptions, tax avoidance and the likes as immediate measures,” he said.
NRA had reported that the country has lost almost forty billion South Sudanese Pounds between June and August this year.
Prior to his appointment as NRA Commissioner General, Dr. Magoya was formerly the deputy commissioner of the Tanzania Revenue Authority.
He will now be deputized by the recently appointed Brigadier General Africano Mande Gedima.
Mande was appointed by President on 22nd last month to act as the Commissioner General of the NRA. He served previously for a short term as governor of the now-defunct Maridi State.
South Sudan’s National Revenue Authority was established in 2018 and was first headed by a Ghanian as its Commissioner General, Dr. Olympio Attipoe.
The Ghanaian was accused of corruption by the administration of the former Minister of Finance and Planning, Salvatore Garang. He was removed and investigated but no lengimitate findings were release to public.
