Nov 19, 2020(Nyamilepedia) — Reports from the Kenyan Defence Force(KDF) confirmed that South Sudan and Kenya have agreed to conduct military training for the two armies at South Sudan-Kenya border.
“General Robert K Kibochi today, received his South Sudan People’s Defence Force (SSPDF) counterpart General Johnson J Okot at the Defence Headquarters, Nairobi.” the KDF press statement added.
“In their deliberations both CDF’s gave their highest assurance and consideration in support of areas of collaboration between KDF and SSPDF. Some of the areas for further engagement included; joint training, ensuring security along the common borders, and also exchange knowledge, information and ideas,” Reads part of the KDF press statement.
This comes after a short courtesy visit by the South Sudan Chief of Defense Forces, Gen Johnson Juma Akot, and the Chief of the military intelligence, Gen Ring Tueny Mabor, Maj Gen Deng K Abot, among other senior generals, to Kenyan Chief of Staff Gen Robert Kariuki Kibochi on Thursday last week.
Following a brief tour to some of Kenya’s military strategic centers such as the Kenya’s Defence Staff College (DSC) in Karen, Ipstc-KENYA and the Defence Forces Technical College in Embakasi, the Kenyan top generals briefed their South Sudanese counterparts on regional security and concerns.
“SSPDF delegation also visited various Ministry of Defence (MOD) training institutions namely; the Defence Staff College (DSC), Karen, International Peace Support Training Centre Kenya. Ipstc-KENYA, Karen and the Defence Forces Technical College (DEFTEC) in Embakasi.” The statement added.
“During the visit Gen Okot and his delegation were briefed on Kenya’s perspective on Regional Security,” Reads part of the KDF’s press statement.
The statement also indicated that the South Sudanese delegation had a guard of honour by the Kenyan Air Force.
“The guard of honour for the visiting general was mounted by the Kenya Air Force.” The KDF press statement added.
South Sudan, the world’s “youngest nation” which has been facing many internal conflicts and border aggressions, is a member of many leagues of nations including the East African Community; however, South Sudan has a lot to learn and adopt from countries like Kenya.
The Kenyan general appreciated the visit and hope the two countries will see such agreements implemented.
