An earlier debunked report indicated that the ambassador had taken the controversial COVID-19 AstraZeneca vaccine, a report which turned out to be false.

A separate statement attributed to Andruga earlier says he had surgery due to bilateral varicose veins with multiple incompetent perforations with a stasis ulcer. The statement says, as a result, emergency bilateral multiple litigation and stripping of the varicose veins was done.

However, Larco Lokomayat, a close associate to Mr. Andruga said the ambassador has “fully recovered” from the surgery.

“There has been false, negative and misinformation circulating on social media in the past few days regarding my brother Ambassador John Andruga Duku that his both legs were affected as a result of Covid 19 Vaccine.

“Ambassador Andruga did not take AstraZeneca Covid 19 vaccine, what happened in Ambassador Andruga had vein stripping surgery on his both legs which is a normal sickness. Andruga is now fully recovered,” Lokomayat wrote.

Speaking on SSBC last night Andruga confirmed not taking AstraZeneca or any COVID-19 vaccine. He instead urged the South Sudanese public to take the vaccine saying it was “safe”.

The Ambassador said his condition would have worsened if the surgery was not done on time. He also took a dig at the person who took and shared his photos on social media for having an ill intention.

“If it was not done immediately it would have been worse but thank God Prof Dr. John Adwok referred me to Dr. John Karuiki who acted promptly with Dr. J. Gohl to perform successful emergency surgery.

“The person who put the pictures on social media has his or her own malicious intentions and propaganda objective which was not sympathetic for my sickness,” said a social media statement attributed to the ambassador.

He added: “I was surprised who put the pictures, why and how did the person get the pictures which I sent privately to my Minister to inform her about surgery and swelling of my both legs. I am recovering well”.
