South Sudan advocacy group condemns violation of ceasefire agreement

January 6th 2020 (Nyamilepedia) – A South Sudan rights group has condemned the violation of the ceasefire agreement by the parties in several part of the world’s youngest nation.

The Center for Peace and Advocacy (CAP) said in a statement on Monday that fighting in Upper Nile’s Maiwut state violates the ceasefire agreement raising concerns over the commitment to of the parties to implement the 2018 deal.

The Center for Peace and Advocacy (CAP) has condemned attacked in violation of the signed ceasefire agreement by government troops against the Opposition forces in at Jekou town in Maiwut state in Upper Nile region today. The people of South Sudan desperately in need of peace and justice,” the statement extended to Nyamilepedia partly read.

The group’s National Coordinator, Ter Manyang Gatwech, says “South Sudan Government should be hold responsible for the direct violations of the Cessation of Hostilities in the country and we called upon South Sudan and SPLM-IO to respect the cessation of hostilities deal signed in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia last year.”

All parties shall comply with International Humanitarian Law and International Human Rights law. They should implement the CoHA in order to prohibit, revenge, vengeance, retribution, intimidations and implement on corridors of delivery of Humanitarian Assistance and free movement of civilians (citizens).

It’s our role as civil society organizations to document and give a report with facts and evidence to the concern bodies or international community for that party (individuals) to be subjected accordance to the humanitarian law and Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan was signed on September 12, 2018, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.”
