July 6, 2020 (Nyamilepedia) – Two members of South Sudan People’s Defense Force (SSPDF) have been kidnapped by the Ugandan army near Nimule, according to several residents there who spoke to Nyamilepedia this morning.
Residents in a border village with Uganda said on Saturday night, fifteen Ugandan soldiers crossed to South Sudan and kidnapped two South Sudanese soldiers and asking residents to leave the village because, according to them, the area belongs to Uganda.
“Yesterday night, fifteen soldiers from Uganda crossed to South Sudan territory and they kidnapped two soldiers. They were telling us to leave because they said we are in their territory which I don’t think is true,” one resident was quoted by South Sudan News Now.
Another unnamed source also said the two soldiers “were taken in a bad manner. Their guns were also confiscated by the Ugandan soldiers. We are really living in fear in our own country because Uganda is now claiming lands in South Sudan and the government in Juba is silent.”
The incident comes two months after four South Sudanese soldiers were killed by members of the Ugandan army inside South Sudan territory. The Ugandan army claimed that it killed the four soldiers after crossing into their territory.
The South Sudan army denied later on and said the soldiers were killed inside South Sudan territory after members of the Ugandan army entered South Sudan. The army later accused Uganda of violating South Sudan’s territorial integrity.
