November 20th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South African vice-president David Mabuza arrived in Juba, South Sudan, on Tuesday ahead of scheduled talks with various stakeholders on the implementation of the Revitalised Peace Agreement on the Resolution of Conflict in the country.
Mabuza has been actively involved in the talks in his capacity as President Cyril Ramaphosa’s Special Envoy to the Republic of South Sudan.
His visit to Juba comes following meetings with Ugandan President Yoweri
Museveni and President Abdel Fattah Abdelrahman Burhan of the Transitional Executive Council of the Republic of Sudan, who are guarantors of the South Sudan peace agreement.
South Sudan has been dogged by violence since December 2013, sparked by a feud between President Salva Kiir and Riek Machar, his former deputy president.
President Kiir accused Machar of plotting to overthrow his rule, allegations the latter refuted but then went on to mobilize a rebel force to fight the government.
Talks are ongoing to put the country back on a peace path and the formation of a transitional unity government that will include the warring factions.
The South African Deputy President is accompanied to Juba by senior government officials.
