February 12th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – The Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General and head of the world body’s mission in South Sudan, David Shearer, said on Tuesday that he is pleased about the ongoing steps being taken by the in the peace implementation.
Shearer met today with President Salva Kiir Mayardiit in the state house in Juba to discuss the ongoing peace implementation in the country.
Last week, Shearer told a news conference in New York that the peace agreement signed in September by Kiir and Machar helped stop political violence in the country saying only some part of the country is experiencing military confrontations between the government and holdout opposition groups.
“President Salva Kiir met with the representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, David Shearer, in the presence of the Minister in the Office of the President, Hon. Mayiik Ayii Deng,” South Sudan Presidency said in a statement.
The statement issued this afternoon further quoted Shearer as saying that he was “pleased with the steps being taken in the implementation of the Revitalized peace agreement.”
Mr. Shearer further pointed out that “the majority of the opposition leaders in Juba represent an important step to build trust between the parties to the conflict in the country.”
