Lakes State, South Sudan,
July 20, 2021 — Seven people have been killed in an incident perpetrated by cattle raiders in Lakes State.
According to Police in the area, the incident happened on Monday evening in Maarjok, an area under Rumbek Central County.
According to the information received by Nyamilepedia, the victims are suspected to be cattle raiders from Panyijiar County of Unity State.
“We haven’t received any report of casualties from the side of cattle owners [in Maarjok],” police said.
It has been confirmed also that a number of unidentified people sustained injuries.
Elijah Mabor, Lakes state police spokesperson, told media that the security situation in the area is not normal.
But, however he said security apparatus have been deployed to suppress any resurgence of violence.
“After the clashes, the attackers left the scene [but] they are still around the bushes of Amongpiny and Paluch areas.”
Lakes State has been going through an unabated communal violence, cattle rustling and different forms of violence following the fragile security and lack of law and order in the State.
Rin Tueny, newly appointed Lakes State governor vowed to restore law and order in the state and said he would punish both political and military leaders found guilty of inciting violence among communities in Lakes State.
