Mar 17th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – A senior member of the armed opposition movement, the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement in Opposition (SPLM-IO), under the leadership of the former First Vice President of South Sudan, Dr. Riek Machar Teny, has resigned Friday 16th March, 2018, according to a letter obtained by the Nyamilepedia.
John Lo-Mariata, a member of the SPLM-IO’s National Liberation Council, in a letter dated 16th March 2018 directed to the SPLM-IO Chairman and Commander-in-Chief, Riek Machar, said “I am humbled to submit to you my resignation from the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement in Opposition (SPLM-IO) with effect from today 16th March, 2018.
Lo-Mariata did not give any reason why he resigned, but he said he wants to be an “ordinary citizen” saying “with this note, I am retiring down from the SPLM-IO to become an ordinary citizen of South Sudan”
Lo-Mariata thanked the SPLM-IO Chairman, Dr. Riek Machar, saying “thank you for the services rendered under guidance of your leadership and the trust bestowed upon me to serve as a member of the National Liberation Council”
Lo-Mariata previously served as the Secretary of Information and Public Relations of the Chamber of Commerce in the SPLM-IO.
The little known politician also claims that he was a senior member of the Liberation Council of the SPLM/SPLA in Opposition, an appointment Nyamilepedia could not immediately verify.
