Senior generals and politicians who abandoned Machar warmly welcomed by President Kiir

Nov 26, 2021 — A group of senior politicians and military generals from Phou community, who recently abandoned Dr. Riek Machar Teny and rejoined the SPLM/A-IG, have been warmly welcomed by president Salva Kiir who used the opportunity to call on other rebels to put down their guns and join him in the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement.

On Wednesday, November 24th, 2021, a group led by Lt. Gen. Johnson Kuol Gai, the former military governor of SPLM/A-IO’s defunct Phou State, and Hon. James Kok Ruea, paid president Salva Kiir a courtesy visit in his office to officially declare their allegiance to the president.

“Wednesday 24th November 2021 – His Excellency President Salva Kiir Mayardit met with politicians and Generals from Fangak County led by James Kok Ruea and his other colleagues who recently declared their allegiance from SPLM_IO under Dr Riek Machar Teny to the SPLM under the leadership of H.E President Salva Kiir Mayardit.” Read part of a press statement from President Kiir’s press secretary office.

According to J1, President Salva Kiir Mayardit appreciated the move made by James Kok Ruea and his colleagues and called upon the group to join hands and work for peace and unity of the Country.

In his remarks to the media after the meeting, James Kok Ruea called upon those that are still under the SPLM-IO and the holdout groups to come and join H.E President Salva Kiir Mayardit to work collectively for peace and prosperity of the nation.

The group also called upon those that are still holding arms against the government to put them down and join hands for the stability of the Nation to pave way for the elections in 2023
