Salva Kiir meets UNHCR Special Envoy

Sep 23, 2020(Nyamilepedia) — South Sudan President, Salva Kiir met the officials of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees[UNHCR] in the capital, Juba.

According to officials from Kiir’s office, the UNHCR delegation briefed President Kiir “on UNHCR comprehensive solution for South Sudan refugees in the region”.

“President Salva Kiir recieved a message of goodwill and solidarity from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and to brief him on UNHCR comprehensive solution for South Sudan refugees in the region.” Read part of a statement from Kiir’s office.

Although struggling, and he may barely have concret plans for the Internationally Displaced Person(IDPs) and the citizens in the country, President Kiir assured the UHNCR officials that preparations are under way to ensure that the country is stable for the return of the refugees.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Deng Dau Deng said that President Salva Kiir re-assured the UNHCR that the government is ready to receive South Sudanese refugees to come back to the country and participate in the role for peace and development in the country.

Dau added that the Government will continue to provide necessary support to the activities of UNHCR in South Sudan.

“The message was delivered to President Salva Kiir by UNHCR Special envoy for the Horn of Africa, Ambassador Mohamed Abdi Affey, in the Presence of the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Deng Dau, at the State House on Tuesday.” The Press Secretary of President Kiir reiterated.

In his remarks, the UNHCR Special Representative, Ambassador Mohamed Abdi Affey Said that UNHCR is very inspired and encouraged by the leadership of President Salva Kiir in seeking peace in South Sudan and Sudan, ambassador Mohamed Affey added that they discussed how best to provide solutions to the problem of South Sudanese Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons.
