S. Sudan’s Machar saddened by Edward Lino’s demise

April 17, 2020 (Nyamilepedia) — South Sudan’s first vice president and SPLM-IO leader Dr. Riek Machar Teny has sent a condolence message on the passing on of Edward Wuor Lino Abyei saying he has been saddened by the demise of the former SPLM-IO figure.

On Wednesday, former South Sudan co-chair of Abyei oversight committee Edward Lino died in the Indian city of Bangalore following a five-year struggle against unidentified illness.

He has been on a medical attention since 2015. He died at 74.

In a condolence message on Friday, Machar said Edward Lino was a great friend and that South Sudan has lost a great leader hailing his stance on the disputed region of Abyei which Lino had sought to move to South Sudan.

“I have learned with deep sorrow the sad news of the passing on of Gen. Edward tino Abyei Wuor on 15th April 2020 after a long struggle with illness,” Machar said.

“On behalf of the of SPLM/SPLA(I0) family, I would like to convey aur condolence for demise of a great comrade and a dear friend to all our people and his immediate family and relatives,” he added.

He further said the former member of the SPLM-IO “shall be remembered for his courage and contribution to the struggle of self-determination and independence of South Sudan as well as for his continued effort to address the status of Abyei Area.”

“He will be greatly missed. May God Almighty rest his soul in eternal peace.”
