S. Sudan’s Machar dispatch delegation to Abyei to accompany body of senior member

April 24, 2020 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s First Vice President and SPLM-IO leader Dr. Riek Machar Teny has on Friday dispatched a delegation to the disputed region of Abyei to accompany the body of senior member, Edward Lino, who passed away in India early this month.

In a statement to Nyamilepedia, the secretary general of the main armed opposition group, Tingo Peter, said he was tasked to lead the delegation which includes five other senior opposition officials.

“You know that the body of late Edward Lino arrived in the country yesterday. On the backdrop of the arrival of the body, the Chairman and Commander in Chief and our First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny dispatched a delegation to Abyei,” Tingo said.

“This delegation is comprising of six people and is led by me. We will convey our condolence to the people of Abyei in general and the family in particular because we have lost an hero, a man who fought for this country for years,” he added.

Separately, another official confirmed in a statement that Machar dispatched a high-level delegation to Abyei to accompany Lino’s body.

“The SPLM (IO) under the leadership of H.E Dr. Riek Machar Teny Chairman and Commander in Chief of the SPLM/A (IO) sent a delegation to Abyei Administrative Area headed by Hon Tingo Peter Rebigo SPLM(IO) Secretary General to deliver a condolence message to the People of Abyei In particular and South Sudan in General during the burial of Revolutionary Gen Edward Lino,” he said.
