S. Sudan VP’s guards killed in clash with unknown gunmen near Juba

August 20, 2020 (Nyamilepedia) – Six bodyguards of South Sudan’s vice-president for economic cluster James Wani Igga have been killed after unknown armed men attacked a convoy belong to him in an area near the capital Juba.

The incident in which another people were wounded occurred this afternoon in Labonok Payam of the country’s Central Equatoria state, according to Igga’s media official Kalisto Lado.

It was not immediately clear if vice-president Igga was traveling in the convoy.

“They destroyed the vehicle completely, six soldiers died and two more were injured. The vehicle was heading to Capato from Vice President Headquarters and then there, they were ambushed,” Lado said.

The government official further said the attackers have kidnapped a senior officer within the vice-president’s Guards.
