March 31, 2020 (Nyamilepedia) — South Sudanese students studying in foreign countries have – in a statement extended to Nyamilepedia – demanded that a $3 million support fund allocated to them is released immediately.
Last week, South Sudan’s High-level Taskforce on coronavirus allocated $3 million support fund for South Sudanese students studying abroad and especially in the countries hit by the coronavirus.
However, several students have told the Nyamilepedia in separate interviews that the money has not yet been released prompting them to write to the government to release the money.
“We appreciate the government, most importantly the South SudanTask-Force Committee on COVID-19, for endorsing $3 Million to support us, we welcomed the decision with heavy smiles,” the Students in Egypt, Turkey, Indonesia, Malaysia, Ethiopia, China and Morocco said in the statement.
“We urge at one hand the government to release these funds immediately so that we can early shop foodstuffs, masks, gloves and pay rent since the end of lockdown days are uncertain,” the statement added.
They further said none of them had been infected by the virus saying all of them were doing good.
“We would also like to inform the government and the South Sudanese at large that we are all well and none of us has been infected by Covid-19. We pray that we all remain free from this fatal pandemic,” they said.
