August 8, 2020 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s Reconstituted Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission (R-JMEC) has said that it supports the formation of a committee by President Salva Kiir Mayardit to address the alarming inter-communal violence in the country.

Last month, President Salva Kiir Mayardit formed a high-level committee headed by the country’s vice-president for economic cluster, James Wani Igga, to investigate and resolve the ongoing violence in greater Jonglei state.

“The intercommunal violence in various parts of the country over the past few months continues to be of great concern” Agustino Njoroge the Interim Chairperson of R-JMEC Ambassador said in a statement seen by Nyamilepedia.

The peace monitoring body says the Committee formed by president Kiir last month to investigate the Jonglei violence should work hard to settle the intercommunal violence saying initiatives should be replicated in other parts of South Sudan that are suffering from intercommunal violence.
