July 15, 2020 (Nyamilepedia) – Representatives of South Sudan’s coalition government will meet members of holdout opposition groups in Rome, Italy, this month to continue talks which were halted in January by the outbreak of coronavirus, the Nyamilepedia has learned.

Holdout opposition alliance, the SSOMA, which comprises Real-SPLM, South Sudan United Front (SSUF), and National Salvation Front (NAS), has been on talks with the government of South Sudan until January.

The talks were however disrupted by the outbreak of COVID-19 which forced many countries to close their borders and lockdown internal activities.

Speaking to Nyamilepedia this morning, a South Sudan foreign ministry official said the government was preparing to send a delegation to Rome, where Sant’ Egidio Community, is hosting and mediating the talks.

“The talks will continue this month. The South Sudan government will send a delegation to Italy because the Sant’ Egidio has requested that we send our representatives because talks will resume this month,” the foreign ministry official told Nyamilepedia from Juba.
