August 26, 2020 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan army has deployed thousands of its service-men in the country’s restive region of Central Equatoria days after a rebel force ambushed and killed bodyguards of vice-president James Wani Igga, holdout oppositio group said.
Several civilians in Lobonok county, the area where the ambush took place last week, said government troops have been deploying in the area since Monday and more government offensives were expected to kickoff against National Salvation Front (NAS) rebels in the next few days.
“Since yesterday (Monday), there has been a lot of unusual movements of troops here in Lobonok Payam,” one resident said on condition of anonymity.
For his part, the spokesman of the National Salvation Front (NAS) led by General Thomas Cirilo Swaka, Sube Samuel Manase said in a statement that the army command in Bilpam has “ordered all divisions in South Sudan to contribute troops to the GHQs in Juba.”
