August 9, 2020 (Nyamilepedia) – A South Sudan-based rights group has said that it is concerned by what it said is government silence on the escalation of ethnic violence in the country’s Jonglei state urging the government of President Salva Kiir Mayardit to intervene.

“The Center for Peace and Advocacy (CPA) is deeply concerned by the silence of South Sudan Government in this critical time,” the CPA said in a statement extended to Nyamilepedia urging government agencies to immediately intervene in the process to aid vulnerable people.

“CPA urged the Relief and Rehabilitation Commission to intervene immediately in order to help the most affected victims by the floods. We have a government watching the suffering of its citizens and do nothing to respond to the devastating floods that have hit most parts of South Sudan,” the statement said.

“South Sudan is silent and watching us and what is work of Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management in the country? CPA suggests that the newly appointed Governors should go to their respective states and help the citizens. It’s time to stay out in the hotels while citizens are suffering daily without food and other basic services.

“The main functions of any government is to provide security and protect its citizens from any natural disasters like what happening now in the country.”
