February 24th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – The ruling Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) party was made for the old Sudan and not for the South Sudan which gained its independence in July 2011.
The SPLM was established in 1983 by Dr. John Garang de’Mabior as a liberation movement with a ‘New Sudan’ vision which aimed at fighting for a united, but reformed and a secular Sudan.
Following the death of Garang in a plan crash in 2005, separatist with no agenda for a nation took over the movement and campaigned for the separation of South Sudan from Sudan.
After the independence in July 2011, the party retained the name ‘SPLM’.
In a statement to the Nyamilepedia on Thursday, the leader of the holdout opposition People’s Democratic Movement (PDM) Dr. Hakim Dario said the SPLM party was not made for South Sudan, it was made for Sudan and that it should have been changed after independence.
“The SPLM was made for Sudan, and for liberation of Sudanese, the fact that South Sudan is now a separate country still does not free it from a party that is made for Sudan,” he said in the brief statement he sent to the Nyamilepedia on Thursday.
“Is SPLM still relevant for a constituency in South Sudan?” Dario asked adding that “They (SPLM leaders) loot South Sudan and kill its innocent citizens with impunity, displaced 1.2 millions made 3 millions of them refugees and forced 200 thousands into POCs. This is the SPLM made for Sudan, and made for destruction of South Sudan under the JCE rule.”
“This is South Sudan, which in the words of Kiir, starts with SPLM and ends with SPLM.”
