October 24th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s rival chief of military staffs have met in the Sudanese capital Khartoum on Tuesday, senior SPLM-IO official have told the Nyamilepedia on Tuesday night.

South Sudan’s Army Chief of Defense Forces, Gen. Gabriel Jok Riak is in the Sudanese capital Khartoum where he has attended the high-level military meeting of IGAD chief of staffs which took place there on Monday.

South Sudan President, Salva Kiir Mayardiit and opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon signed the long-awaited revitalized peace agreement in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa.

The agreement, also signed by other opposition groups, came as part of regional efforts headed by the regional bloc, the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) to try to end the five-year old conflict which has killed thousands and displaced millions.

Speaking to the Nyamilepedia in an exclusive interview on Tuesday evening, the SPLM-IO deputy chairman of the national committee for information and public relations Manawa Peter Gatkuoth said SPLA-IO Chief of General Staffs, Gen. Gatwech Dual and SSPDF Gen. Jok Riak were meeting in the Sudanese capital on Tuesday to discuss ongoing violations of the agreement.

“The two chief of army staffs of the SPLA-IO and that of the government are meeting as I speak to you and to discuss issues related to the violations of the permanent ceasefire agreement signed in June,” Manawa told the Nyamilepedia.

He said despite the signing of the agreement and the permanent ceasefire, fighting has continued in some parts of the country like Unity state, Central Equatoria and Western Bahr Al-Ghazal saying the two commanders will discuss how to establish contacts between the two forces on the ground.

South Sudan’s former First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon is expected in South Sudan’s capital Juba on October 30th to attend peace celebrations being organized by the South Sudan government in the capital Juba.
